Shen Yun Review: Joaquin Valdepeñas & Mi Hyon Kim, prominent clarinetist and violinist
“It was so impressive! Very exciting, but also, I liked the colors of the costumes they were using. And all the movements with the flowers and everything, it was just, very very impressive… I really enjoyed having incorporated the Chinese instruments, because they were played very well too, right, and so it became like a mixture of Chinese and Western music together. So, I think the blend was really well done… It’s Chinese classical music, right, so also, like they, I love the sound of erhu, and yeah, I actually wait for the moment when the erhu comes in. Because we have played, with the [Toronto] symphony, sometimes with Chinese composers, with Chinese instruments,
so I really like the sound… And also the tempos have to be just right, right? For the dancers to dance, so, that could be tricky, right? It was terrific!”
